No Christmas

When they saw the star, they rejoiced with

exceedingly great joy (Matthew 2:10).

What if there were no Christmas,

No bright-shining star in the sky?

What if there had been no manger

In which Baby Jesus could lie?

What if there were not three wise men

To bring gifts to the stable that night?

What if there were no shepherds

To gaze on that glorious sight?

What if there were no angels

To carry the message again:

“A Saviour is born in the city:

Peace and good will toward men”?

What if there were no mother

To watch o’er the Baby so sweet?

Yes, what if there were no Christmas

To make all our lives complete?

Would children be quite as happy

At this special time of year

If there were no Christ Child’s birthday

For sharing of joy and cheer?

There would be no Christmas carols

To ring out fresh and new

If Christ had not been born on earth.

To show His love for you.

But “if there were no Christmas”

Need not our hearts dismay;

For God has given to us His gift—

The wonder of Christmas day.
